The Casa Maria Natural Stone Mortar & Pestle lasts for years and develops a dark patina over time. This molcajete can be used to prepare dishes like guacamole, salsa, pico de gallo and mole. I purchased one for my mother and she has been using it to grind spices and herbs.

You will need to season this for several days prior to first using it by using either rock salt or white rice and grinding it into a fine powder in the mortar, making sure to use the entire surface.

Never use detergents, soaps or other cleansers to clean it because of the porous nature of the stone. To wash, use hot water and vigorously scrub clean with  a plastic brush and allow to dry (per instructions).
